May 12, 2016: I visited with her mom yesterday, she was getting some much needed rest,.. the girls are so big now, and little Dakotah, the spitting image of her momma. She has been moved to hospice...
May 20th, 2016: I saw her yesterday,..... Most people think when you visit someone at the hospital, or hospice it's for the one who is sick, but Jess has taught me so much about life the last couple of weeks.
She was a real hoot! today. she was singing today, and being really silly... I knew I wasn't going to cry when I saw her, but I never expected to laugh so hard
May 20th, 2016: Jessica went home to be with God.
May 26th 2016: ( I was asked to speak at her service) I will never forget the day Jessica came into my life,… February 13th, 2010… I had recently found out my oldest daughter was expecting, and while gathering things for her, she looked at me one day and said, “Mom, there’s no more room in my apartment, go help someone else”… Having been a struggling mom myself, 20 some years before, I knew what I needed to do…So I prayed that God would show me someone that needed my help, and then..he gave me Jessica. It was on that day, the tiny non-profit, Baskets for Babies was born, and that was the day, Jessica and her family, would forever fill a huge chunk of my heart. I have been blessed to follow her and her family, through many of life’s ups and downs... She, in grand Jessica style would pop in and out of my life over the next few years, always as if she’d never left. I loved her exuberant nature, and her ability to own any situation, and make her presence known to the world.. Whether you wanted to be a part of it or not ;) I can almost hear her now, cracking jokes, and telling us all how pathetic we are sitting here with our tissues in our hands,.. She doesn’t hurt anymore, and she will never again have cancer. She knows no sadness. She is free at last.
Jessica asked what she did to deserve her cancer, and all I could tell her, with faith in my heart, is that she, like each one of us, HAS a purpose. I believe her greatest purpose, was to love.. her love is seen here today in her amazing!, beautiful children,.. and in all of us who were lucky enough to have our path in life, cross with her’s. Jessica was,.. a spitfire, a whirlwind of love, and determination… In her last few days, I was able to hold her, talk with her, cry with her and to laugh with her.., She taught me, so much about living, all the while she was slipping from our lives. Part of my greater purpose was Jessica, helping her that first day, in her last days,..and all the days I could in between. Part of her purpose, was teaching me about living life to it’s fullest, about loving people beyond measure, and about letting go, and trusting God.
The Lord and His purposes are perfect, and we must realize that we are not. We sometimes fill our heads with doubt during our busy lives, and it keeps us from living out the purposes that He has established for us. The Bible insures us that the Lord has created us and given us all a purpose.
Once God has established His purpose for us in life, no one can do anything to change that. Not even to cure cancer. Sometimes we get so busy and wrapped up in our lives that we forget the purpose behind them. We are driven by demands in our lives and forget that God always has a greater purpose. His purposes not only encompass our lives, but all the lives around us.
No one can ever say that Jessica didn’t LIVE,.. she lived life so loudly that anyone in her prescience had no choice but to live it loudly with her. She was one of the most passionate, beautiful, strongest women I have ever had the privilege of calling my friend… but Jess was more than just a friend, she was family to me, and she was an inspiration to me, and she will live on in her children, and in all of us.

February 13, 2010: My daughter and I arrived at Jessica's house to provide her with our first Baby basket- so that she would be ready for the early arrival of Dakotah Miracle.
They were our first family.
"We are parents and grandparents, who know what it is like to struggle in life. We want to give a hand up, not a hand out, to struggling parents in the community by building a partnership with public health nurses and social service agency workers to identify new mothers in need."
"We've been there-That's why were here."

Baskets for Babies is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization and all donations are tax-deductible. We are currently located in the Spokane Valley. We are incorporated with the State of Washington. We have been distributing to families in our community since February of 2010
Our goal is to provide basic baby supplies and clothing to new parents, who cannot afford to do so, due to the loss of a job, illness, or other life struggle, living in the Spokane (and Coeur d'Alene) areas.
We are a Cribs for Kids partner. We promote Safe Sleep to all of our families.
Our Baby Basket program gives children born into hard times, the chance for healthy development that every child deserves.
Being able to provide their baby with a safe bed and basic necessities increases the self-esteem of new mothers in need and makes for happier, more confident moms. Newborn babies are a blessing and a joy. Their first days should be a time of joy for new parents; bonding with baby and focusing on getting their new life off on the right foot. Unfortunately many families are struggling to do so in this trying economy and cannot even provide the basic necessities to their newborn. No parent should ever have to choose between food and diapers.
( currently our program covers mom's in their last trimester and babies up to 6 months old.. ) *New parents get to "shop" the layette room for baby items, free of charge, and other items, after attending our class. Limited to stock on hand.
